about the work

This series of vignettes brings a variety of first-person perspectives to the terrorist attacks on New York on September 11th. A young couple and their newborn, living only blocks away from the Twin Towers, escape to safety -- but only after the father, trying to "get the shot" on his camcorder, is urged by his wife to flee.

Filmmaker Luke Joerger, some 40 blocks north, responds to the events from this relatively safe view. Filmmaker Ray Mendez, heading toward the wreckage, shoots startling images -- a bicycle thief, triage, spectators voicing anti-American grievances -- and finds Bill Clinton reassuring a crowd along the way.
