Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: I was inspired by Tess Gallagher's beautiful poem, the dailiness of tending to others' needs in my mother's life, my friends' lives, and my own life.
Q: Do you have any interesting and/or amusing behind-the-scenes stories about the making of this particular work?
A: I am a rabid fan of the poems on the subway, which this project ended up being funded by (the Poetry Society of America.) I've had many moments of being so moved by the work on the trains that I've missed a stop writing down a particular phrase or line. I was really happy when I found out the Poetry Society of America wanted me to direct a short based on their poems. next
