Q: How did you fund this particular film/video, and what is your general experience in seeking funding for your work?
A: The funding for this film was quite easy, as a matter of fact. In Holland, documentaries are primarily engaged by TV. We "only" have about 7 or 8 nationwide channels, 3 public ones and the rest commercial. The commercial ones are no serious partner for proper documentary films. So it is the public TV that undertakes most initiating towards the development of documentary films. On the 3 public channels, several non-for-profit broadcast organizations are active, based on religious or political principles (a unique system in the world). As much as this system has been corrupted over the last 20 years by commercial forces, the structure remains largely intact. Seven of these organizations form serious partners in documentary projects.
