Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: As a significant part of my earlier film (A GREAT DAY IN HARLEM) I had hoped to clear up the mystery of Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, and the historic spitball, which had been tantalizing jazz fans for half a century. But when I put the question to Dizzy (on film) he was evasive. So that segment was deleted from A GREAT DAY IN HARLEM.
