Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: Robin Newland is a friend of mine and a few years ago we took a trip together to Puerto Rico. I noticed she brought all these dolls with her and I asked her about them. She said it was too hard for her to be away from her "doll family" so she usually brought a few along. We talked for hours about how important her "doll family," was to her and she credited them with saving her life. I thought her story was so interesting on so many different levels; it would make a great documentary film.
