Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: My inspiration for this piece came around the time that my father was dying. I was thinking about his ideas of America and the American dream. However, this is not a biographical piece; some events were inspired by other families that I know in New York, families of different ethnic backgrounds. I found that we shared common feelings and family conflicts; the old world versus the new world. I found an interesting visual metaphor in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, contrasting old and new buildings.
