Funding opportunities are very limited. Only one alternative to already existing funding possiblities has emerged -- Creative Capital. Many makers vie for limited amounts of money, and some say it's a small select group that continues to receive the awards, making it very hard for emerging artists to gain access to the field. The change in technology has lured makers into realms outside of traditional film and video. Short digital films for the Web can receive almost instant distribution and cost a lot less to make. One colleague said that a lot of young people want to "tinker" with the new technologies and are more concerned with process and format than with content.
