It is always surprising to us how many wonderful works come our way each year.
This year, though, we have begun to see a shift in the kinds of programs that are being produced and made available to us.
We noticed a marked decrease in the amount of films and videos addressing social issues, especially within minority
communities. We talked with our colleagues in the field and there seem to be several factors involved in this recent trend
within the independent community:
The political climate has changed. People are not as threatened about their welfare due to the economic boom and the legacy of inclusionism left by the Clinton era.
