What inspired you to make this piece?
It was inspired by one of my poems, "Walking to You," featured in the short film. This poem was published by the National Library of Poetry in 1998, and for the International Library of Poetry in 1999.

Tell us a little about the process involved in making this work.
Usually, when I start a project I have a very clear idea of what I want. I also know the music I'm going to use, and this helps me a lot because I can choreograph the camera movements. At the same time, I am always open to changes or new ideas during the shoot.
With WALKING TO YOU, I spent a lot of time looking for the right locations (which is something I do all the time). Sometimes I work with storyboards in order to plan ahead of time, not just the camera movements, but also the movements "inside the frame." Every single deatil -- perspective, color, speed, texture -- has a meaning, and the viewer reacts to them.

Do you have any interesting and/or amusing behind-the-scenes stories about the making of this particular work?
The most interesting thing that happened to me during the shooting of WALKING TO YOU is that I learned to see New York City in a different way. New York is known as a "rough" city, very noisy and violent, but somehow during the process of directing this film I discovered a romantic, lonely, vulnerable side of New York.
Is there a relationship between your work as a video/filmmaker and life in the New York metropolitan area?
Absolutely! Living in New York, surrounded by very unique and diverse locations, plus the possibility to absorb its amazing artistic world (theater, film, dance, literature, paintings, music, museums), and even the weather -- New York in winter offers you something different from New York in spring -- gives me a close relationship between my work and life.
How has the burgeoning independent movement affected your life and work as a video/filmmaker?
It has opened a lot of doors and venues to get exposure for people like me who are getting their first steps in writing, producing, and directing.
