What is it like growing up gay in New York City at the end of the millennium? This candid exploration of that question won the Audience Award for Outstanding Short Documentary at Outfest Los Angeles last year. The setting is New York City's Hetrick-Martin Institute, a social service organization for the support of gay youth. The players are 16-year-old Charly, Dominican and gay; 20-year-old Peachy, an African-American lesbian; 20-year-old Angel, Latina and transgender; and 16-year-old Maxx, a Latino who came out when he was just 13. Here, they talk openly about themselves and act out short fantasy segments that reveal their most private selves.
