Welcome to the unique world of Marvin Schneider, official clockmaster of the City of New York. Beginning in the kinetic streets of the city, the film moves into a tower far above a busy downtown stretch of Broadway, where, except for the perpetual movement of the grand clockworks, time seems to have stood still. The film follows Schneider as he goes through his weekly routine, repairing, oiling, and winding the clockworks. It includes an examination of the mechanism's movements -- precise, elegant, and wrought with nuance. At its core, this is a film about a sanctuary and a bubble in time located in the center of downtown New York, and the man who has found his unusual niche in caring for a forgotten landmark.
