Independent filmmaker, photographer, cartoonist, and designer Ken Brown has been making films since 1970. His work includes short and experimental films, video documentaries and, most recently, animations for MTV and VH-1. Brown has been a regular contributor to Sesame Street during the past eight years, winning two Emmy Awards for animation contributions. Questionnaires were sent to each artist participating in REEL NEW YORK -- Season Three. Below are the artist's written responses.

	Wall to Wall (A City Ditty)
	What compelled you to make this piece? How does this work address issues that are important to you or close to your heart? I am fascinated by the rich graphic textures that continue to percolate on the walls of downtown New York City and because of its ephemeral nature feel it especially important to record. This is part of an ongoing series documenting folk art in its many manifestations.  From WALL TO WALL. How does living in the New York metropolitan area affect your work? I love and crave visual stimulation and find New York City the "Big Table" for visual feasting. In including your work in REEL NEW YORK, do you think your piece in any way pushes the medium of television, or the viewing audiences' expectations of that medium? I certainly hope so. The work is experimental and of a style rarely seen in commercial or network television. What about access to the tools of production and post-production? Post production is available, but always expensive for the independent producer with little or no guarantee of remuneration.  From WALL TO WALL. Why did you become a film/video artist/maker? Had to. Perhaps it's biological. Do you feel the New York independent film/video community has changed in recent years? Do you find support living and working in such a large community of artists? I find, in general, the community to be supportive, but as always, there are few venues for independent work.
