Coming this June, Thirteen Online will launch REEL NEW YORK.WEB, an online presentation of outstanding Web-based work by artists in the New York metropolitan area. Together with REEL NEW YORK the television series, these showcases from Thirteen/WNET present an expanded view of cutting-edge new media in the New York area.
In the summer of 1998, REEL NEW YORK presented the third season of its summer festival series of works by independent New York-based film and video artists. Hosted by Academy Award-nominated actress Rosie Perez, REEL NEW YORK aired on eight consecutive Sundays at 11pm, from June 14 through August 2, 1998, only on Thirteen/WNET. See the Festival Calendar for the complete television schedule, including repeats.
This online companion features interviews with the film/video artists, QuickTime clips from each work, a printable Festival Calendar, a forum for cyber-discussion, comments from Series Curator Kathy High, and a wealth of resources for those interested in independent media.
This series was made possible with a generous grant from the GREENWALL FOUNDATION and with public funds from the NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS, a state agency.
