This beautiful visual poem gracefully tells the tale of two presently-estranged lovers. As the film is a literal retelling of a love story, the images are dreamy and softly faded, retracing the sensuous details of this love match and memories of romantic moments together. Drawn to each other for pleasure and passion, the lovers were defiant of both the racial boundaries between them and the circumstances in their lives. In a reunion between father and son at Coney Island, the sea seems a fitting backdrop to this meeting, as the images -- like the people -- seem to come together and drift apart.
