THE ANDRE SHOW (1997) (43:00) In this poignant documentary, Beverly Peterson takes an intimate look at a mother and son struggling with AIDS. Peterson and her husband find themselves deeply involved in Andre's life, and decide to adopt him when his mother dies. Andre is a brilliant performer and quickly picks up Peterson's camera for his own purposes. His video diary entries, along with Peterson's, expose the development of a deep friendship and the compassionate reshaping of a family. Filmmaker Beverly Peterson's award-winning documentaries, SANDRA'S WEB: A MOTHER'S DIARY and DEFINING LIFE, have been screened at national film festivals and aired on cable television. SANDRA'S WEB: A MOTHER'S DIARY is used in the HIV Resource Library of the New York City Department of Health and by the Media Network. Ms. Peterson has produced and edited internationally-screened videos for the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes and other non-profit organizations. Ms. Peterson led video production and editing training workshops for community-based groups, including New York City's Stuyvesant High School and the Global Action Project, a group working with inner-city teenagers. |

Ayoka Chenzira is founder and president of the New York-based film and video production company Red Carnelian. Ms. Chenzira's company produces a variety of work that tells compelling stories about black life and culture, including award-winning filmmaking, animation, documentary, short dramas, and performance pieces. Ms. Chenzira's 1993 film ALMA'S RAINBOW is one of the first 35mm feature films for theatrical release to be written, produced and directed by an African-American woman. Ms. Chenzira has also been honored by the mayors of New York City and Detroit for her outstanding contributions to the field of black independent cinema. |

SUBWAY DIARIES (1996) (5:32) Using new digital technologies, Carrigg combines text, video, sounds, photos, and journal entries to create a very personal piece about her relationship with the New York City subways.

Lise Carrigg recently received her M.A. from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University. While at New York University, Carrigg created a "Girls on Film" Web site which was acquired by Concrete Media, a New York-based media company. Ms. Carrigg currently serves as executive producer for the Web site. Ms. Carrigg resides in New York City. |
