Q: What inspired you to make this piece? A: In 1989 I was artist in residence at the Institute of Art in Beersheva, Israel. One morning I started to record in what seemed to be an ordinary neighborhood. Within a few moments, soldiers surrounded me demanding to see what I videotaped. During the last few years I've been stopped from using my camera several times by police or security guards in and around NYC. I used images recorded since 9/11 to contemplate this new reality. |
