Interview with Ingrid Rojas

Q: What inspired you to make this piece?

A: My aunt Maria, the film's main subject, had moved to the U.S. long before I was born. I grew up in Colombia hearing stories about Maria living in New York, working for wealthy families, and then later I started hearing stories about her progressive vision loss. When I moved to the U.S. to attend film school, I came in close contact with her. By that time she had already been determined to be legally blind, was walking with a cane and working at her candy stand. I was immediately drawn to her, Julio, her new blind boyfriend, their love story and their world of the blind.
