Q: What films/videos and makers have inspired you or influenced your work? And why?
A: I love Alan Berliner's work. I think that history that is personally meaningful -- like family history -- is the most passionately told history. I'd love to make films like his, but I'm too self conscious. I don't think I could make a film that my subject might potentially hate. It's easier being an historian and dealing with the dead people's lives!
