Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A:
This is my second film. My first film, THUNDER IN GUYANA, was about my cousin who became President of Guyana in South America. It aired on INDEPENDENT LENS in 2005. I am trained professionally as an historian. I wanted to get back to my area of expertise -- New York City history. As an historian, I am interested in both the role history plays in the lives of every day people and the actual history itself. So, I thought about making a feature documentary on New York history buffs -- New Yorkers obsessed with various aspects of their local history. I started with the subway buffs and that's how I met the subject of my film, Paul Kronenberg.
