Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A:
The inspiration for this piece is built upon a questioning of whether moments from the past remain alive, even after all signs of their existence are fading. The building that serves as the metaphor for this idea was a boarded up bar in Hoboken, New Jersey. Never having seen it inside, I envisioned it as being a confectionary from the 1930s. The idea that a place which at one time represented such carefree feelings could now be sitting silently under a layer of dust, really interested me. It seemed as if time had instantly stopped, freezing everything in its path. For me, this place represented the very process of remembering itself.
