A: (cont'd.) -- and so nearly every frame references the urban environment -- directly by being on the streets, or indirectly, by being in a space of production. One technique used in the edit was to create a 'lenticular' effect with the clips. So often you will see clip A, then clip B, maybe clip C, and then back to A, B and C, picking up approximately where the previous usage of that clip ended. I developed this strategy to create a sense of time unfolding. This sense of time, as something ephemeral but yet also as an element of permanence, as something that endures, is a reflection of the city, where people and images circulate with fluidity amongst the fixed grid of the streets and the solidness of the buildings that define those streets.
