Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: While most of my video work is about painters and sculptors working in an abstract style, I was interested in Andres Serrano because the compositions in his photographs have an abstract quality similar to Renaissance painting. And often, especially in his latest series, "America," these works look like paintings. I have always thought there to be more to Serrano's work than the controversies surrounding it. While everybody has an opinion about this new series, I wanted to explore the visual qualities there as well.
