Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: I read about Bill Shannon in INDEX MAGAZINE a few years ago and found his work fascinating. One day, I was heading home past Astor Place and saw this person on crutches who appeared to be having a really difficult time, until I realized that I happened to have had the fortune of com[ing] across Shannon doing one of his street performances. He appeared to be making a lot of people uncomfortable. Most people ignored him and rushed on by, and others awkwardly tried to help him.
