Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: I was inspired to make this piece because we had just embarked upon the war with Iraq and I really wanted to take a look at how war affects the people surrounding those who participate in it. Being a child of a Vietnam veteran, I was always curious about my dad's experience, but it was not something he felt comfortable speaking about. My father had suffered a stroke a few years back that had disabled his speech quite a bit. It was clear that if I ever wanted to know anything about his time as a soldier, I should ask now.
