Of course, as soon as I place the camera in front of him and begin asking my questions, I am influencing the outcome of the piece, and this influence grows exponentially in the editing process. Yet, I do my best to stay true to the subjects' words and to relate their stories in the most honest way that I can. At the same time, I want the film to work on more than one level, and I want to engage and provoke the viewer as well. Poetry has an increasingly large influence on my work, and I think a lot about poetic structure and discourse as I edit.
