Q: What inspired you to make this piece?

A: Years ago, I visited my sister and her family in Atlanta. We went to some big box store and her daughters, who were four and five at the time, ran off to the big Barbies tower display. We couldn't see them for a minute because the display was so large; there was a moment of immediate fear and anxiety. There was also a strange little girl at the display who seemed to be alone. I was obsessed with their obsession with Barbies, with the strange places that these big box stores are, and how much value we as a society place on having 100 different types of detergent or toilet paper or potato chips from which to choose.
