Q: Is there a relationship between your work as a video/filmmaker and life in the New York metropolitan area?
A: I grew up in Manhattan and knew every nook and corner of the city. Richmond, my cameraman (the wonderful filmmaker, Ed Emshwiller), and I roamed around town, creating sequences as we went. The three little boys (brothers) were on their way home when we found them. We shot the sequence where they follow Richmond on the Upper West Side, then sent them home in a cab. How can you go wrong shooting in the streets of New York?
