Q: Do you have any interesting and/or amusing behind-the-scenes stories about the making of this particular work?
A:
For our protagonist, I used a mime named Richmond Sheppard. It took a while to teach him to walk backward so that when the film was reversed he appeared to be walking forward naturally. One day we were shooting in midtown Manhattan when we came across a parade. I had Richmond run out into the middle of Fifth Avenue and follow the parade, marching backward! A half dozen policemen descended on him before he got more than a few yards, but by then we had our shot.
