Q: What inspired you to make this piece?
A: In 1982, Thirteen broadcast [my] video AS IS, which was a look at New York City as a place of ritual and performance. It was the first in a projected series of videos on New York. I always wanted to continue the series of videos, but never quite got to it. Finally, last year I began to shoot around the city for a larger feature-length video and found that some of the material worked well as this shorter work.
