Q: What is the relationship between your work as a video/filmmaker and life in the New York metropolitan area?
A:
I think most of my work is a direct reaction to living in New York, starting with my first film, DIRTY BABY DOES FIRE ISLAND, which was my way of trying to process what the hell the Fire Island Pines is all about. There's something therapeutic about taking these New York social roles, whether it's the Fire Island Queen or the Underminer, and making them a bit hyper-real, not only for comic effect but also as a way of showing that something a bit more toxic lies underneath.
