A:
(cont'd.) So with a very tiny budget and very little time and no production staff, researcher, co-producer, it's difficult [to] go deeply into the story. After many traded calls, I reached the director of the homeless shelter where Mr. Flores had been living, and he declined to be interviewed for the piece. So the short became more contemplative, and the focus became the dog people and their reaction to what happened, as well as my own thoughts about a story that took place locally, but which resonated for many people, all over the world. For a five-minute film, this is a reasonable focus, but I would have liked, in an ideal world, to have traveled to Honduras and Virginia and Miami and learned more.
