A:
(cont'd.) New York subways and train stations. Police are stopping people from taking pictures of New York's bridges. Given the extraordinary records of New York left by artists like Walker Evans, I find all of this particularly dismaying. I'm concerned about the city's safety, but I'm also concerned about civil liberties and the right [to], even the necessity of[,] documenting our surroundings and history. I don't think that these blanket photography bans are the best way to protect New Yorkers, and this clampdown will certainly affect my work as a filmmaker.
