Q: Do you have any interesting behind-the-scenes stories about the making of this particular work?

A: My intern, who scouted for the piece and shot some second camera, is from Pakistan, but she's all-American, clean-cut, [and] sweet in appearance. During the six weeks she was in NYC working with me, she was twice read the Patriot Act and someone called the cops on her. Oddly, Toshi [cinematographer], who is not all that sweet looking, and I had no trouble. We shot on airport rooftop parking garages, on the JFK AirTrain, and in Times Square. No one bothered us, except at the Marriott Hotel, after 45 minutes of burying the tripod in a planter.
