Taxi '07 (Exhibition), The Design Trust For Public Space
More than 12,000 yellow cabs ply the streets of New York, city icons since their introduction 100 years ago. CABBIE VOICES is a snapshot of the fascinating people in the driver’s seat, and their stories of one of the most interesting jobs in the Big Apple. The short was produced with the support of the Design Trust for Public Space for Taxi 07, an exhibit on the next generation of taxis.

What inspired you to make this piece?
I was commissioned by The Design Trust For Public
Space to make this piece.
Briefly tell us how you made your film or video: what camera and format did you use to shoot your piece, and what system did you use to edit it? What is your working process? Did you use any special techniques to make this work?
The film was shot on Mini DV using shotgun and
lavalier microphones for interviews with taxi drivers
on the street.
What is the relationship between your work as a video/filmmaker and life in the New York metropolitan area?
New York is a beautiful canvas from which to draw a
myriad of stories.
What films/videos and makers have inspired you or influenced your work? And why?
I have been most influenced and inspired by the documentary film work of Randy Bell. His ability to compress hours of material into a concise story is captivating.
