Fan Mail: A man attempts to compose the perfect fan letter to a film director.
Directed by Sean Christensen
With all due respect to the film maker, I was a little bored to tears! Is this what people learn in film school? If it were longer than 3:46, I don’t think I would have made it to the end. I didn’t understand the point. This seemed a little narcissistic and self-indulgent. I found myself asking, “Who cares what graduate film students go through?”
Jane Austen is absolutely right here. I’ve been in the entertainment business for almost 50 years, and writers no longer know what an arc is or how to write a tag line. Directors no longer know how to line up a shot, and editors have collectivelly lost their ability to tighten up a scene. My advice is to go back and look at the films of the 40′s and 50′s, and the comedies of the 30′s and learn from them.
