Gigante (2009): A chronicle of a supermarket security guard’s obsession with a late-shift janitor.
Directed by Adrian Biniez
Looks like a Spanish version of “Observe and Report”.
I loved this quiet tale which unfolds at the speed of daily life. Simple as it is, it has remained to resonate in me
for the past several weeks. A large, simple man with a boring job observes, then becomes attached to, at a distance, one of the overnight store cleaners he is hired to observe through the security camera in a large Montivideo supermarket. Everything is from a distance, the dialogue is more just ambient sound than plotted. His committment to the relationship is fully developed before they ever speak, which of course, she does not realize and we do not hear. Loved it.
I enjoyed how the movie developed as it went along and I liked the simple ending. It kept your attention because you didn’t really know where it was going you wanted to see what was going to happen next. I would watch this again, definitely.
