"Raising Victor Vargas" was nominated for five Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Director, Feature, and Screenplay. It was filmed on location on Manhattan's Lower East Side, and is a continuation of Sollett's award-winning short film "Five Feet High and Rising."
Growing up in “Loisada” (New York’s Lower East Side), 16-year-old Victor struggles between boyhood and young-manhood, while juggling the demands of an eccentric family and the complexities of a growing romance with a very self-possessed young woman.
Peter Sollett is a graduate of NYU film school. His films have won awards and appeared at film festivals around the world, including Cannes, Aspen, and Deauville. Sollett's next feature is "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," starring Michael Cera ("Juno," "Superbad").
