Mindy is a strong-minded 12-year-old who wants to find a boyfriend for her harried single mother (Sandra Oh) and save her from financial ruin. So she begins to experiment with Taoist magic. Although the effect is never quite what she hopes for — her misdirected charms appear to cause an aging security guard to lose his job and a local butcher to win the lottery — her mother’s drab existence does become enlivened.
Mina Shum wrote, produced and directed "Long Life, Happiness & Prosperity." Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver, Shum studied film production and went on to make five short films, including "Me, Mom, and Mona," which was honoured with a Special Jury Citation at Toronto in 1993.
