Dances with Wolves (1990)

DANCES WITH WOLVES is a Western classic. What is your favorite Western – and why?

“Red River”- Howard Hawks – the dynamic between father (John Wayne) and son (Montgomery Clift) is very compelling.

    Lonesome Dove,

  • Steve from Staten Island

Dances With Wolves AND Shane — both portray the pasing of the old west, the former with the end of the Indian rule of the Midwest and the latter of the end of the gunlinger days. Interestingly and sadly, both the Indians of “Dances” and Shane himself know their time is over by the end of their respective movies.

My Favorite is The Outlaw Josey Wales and second place goes to Jeremiah Johnson – also a great movie. After hearing ‘about the Buffalo being trained or “persuaded by an Oreo cookie in Dances with Wolves scene with the young brave- I wonder what persuasion they used getting the bear to follow Will Geer into the cabin to be “quick skinned”by Redford…lol Have a look!
