THE NIGHT THEY RAIDED MINSKY’S is a backstage look at life in the theatre.  What is your favorite show-biz film?

Neal Gabler considers sports part of show business, and chooses Cameron Crowe’s “Jerry Maguire” as his favorite.

I don’t think that I can pick just one show-biz film as my absolute favorite, but I do like Walter Lang’s 1954 film, “There’s No Business Like Show Business”.

Well, for pure parady, albiet tangential to this discussion, I lean towards HBO’s “Larry Sanders”. Film wise, I choose the “Minskie’s” flick based on its combination of brining history back to life, great comedy, and Jason Robards’ character wrestling with morality, his concience, and the conflict between his paternal vs seductive proclivities. Finally, the writers did a good job of contrasting and reconciling two very incompatible cultures – how each one on its own compromised people’s dignity. BTW, who played the character with the white hair who sang so beautifully?
