The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (1978)

As in many Australian films, BENEATH CLOUDS examines the “Aboriginal issue.” What’s your favorite Aussie Aboriginal film?

Richard Peña suggests WALKABOUT, THE LAST WAVE, and the recent international hit SAMSON AND DELILAH; his favorite is Fred Schepisi’s THE CHANT OF JIMMY BLACKSMITH.

I don’t remember the name, but Fences is in the title. It’s a story of a two aboriginal children (sisters) who leave the school, located far from their home, and they walk home. Lasting image of their faces and counterpointed by the faces of their captors. Powerful imagery throughout. Hope someone remembers the title.

How can you omit Rabbit Proof Fence from the list of films?
