Three Coins in the Fountain
Air Date: March 14, 2009
Three American women (Dorothy McGuire, Jean Peters and Maggie McNamara) pin their hopes for love on wishes they make as they toss coins into Rome’s famous Trevi Fountain. Their wishes come true… but only in a way that writer John H. Secondari (who wrote the novel on which the film is based) could have imagined! Frank Sinatra croons the Oscar-winning title tune, written by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn in 1954. Jean Negulesco directs, with Clifton Webb and Louis Jourdan costarring.
Directed by: Jean Negulesco
Born in Romania, Jean Negulesco moved to Paris as a young man to train as a painter. He lived on the Riviera (supporting himself as a dancer) before moving to Hollywood to devote his life to “cinema, the art of our time.” In addition to Three Coins in the Fountain, Negulesco directed such Hollywood classics as Daddy Long Legs, How to Marry a Millionaire, and Johnny Belinda.
