Close to 60 percent of the population of Flushing is Korean, Japanese,
Chinese, Indian, or Southeast Asian -- which explains why Flushing has
received the nickname "Little Asia."
A walk down Union Street feels like
being in another country, as almost all the stores having Korean-language
signs. Known as Koreatown, Union Street is the commercial center for Flushing's large Korean population. There are approximately 500 Korean businesses, including dozens of Korean restaurants, nail salons/barber shops, clothing shops, travel agencies, after-school institutes, and coffee shops/bakeries.
