Trailer: Ireland's Wild River

The Shannon is Ireland’s greatest geographical landmark and the longest river. It is both a barrier and highway – a silver ribbon holding back the rugged landscapes of the west from the gentler plains to the east. The Shannon passes through a huge palette of rural landscapes, where on little-known backwaters, Ireland’s wild animals and plants still thrive as almost nowhere else.

Regarding “Animal Odd Couples”: It’s HIGHLY unlikely that the fawn, Pip, was “abandonded” by her mother. That’s the first conclusion humans come too and it’s ridiculous and tiresome. The mother was probably hit by a car or killed in some other way. Just because humans can be neglectful and cruel to their young doesn’t mean that animals are the same. It is very rare for a non-human mother to desert her baby in the wild.

Ducks are wonderful creatures. They are also being tortured on a foie gras farm in New York State, and in other facilities. The farm’s PR says that the ducks are treated humanely. Can having a metal pipe shoved down their throat several times a day and their stomachs stuffed to overflowing with mash so that their livers will grow to enormous sizes and become diseased be “humane”?

We should do more than just look at animals on television. We should all support the humane treatment of animals.
