Coming to Independent Lens: The Island President

See the story of President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, a man confronting a problem greater than any other world leader has ever faced - the literal survival of his country and everyone in it, as the most low-lying country in the world, a minor rise in sea level would submerge the 1200 islands of the Maldives.

Watching the Detropia segment on Independent Lens made me sad for the City I spent the first 17 years of my life growing up in. My only criticism is to the captions … too white / washed out and the type font too blurry to read without getting out of my chair and standing a foot from the television screen.

I am watching POWERLESS I don’t understand why this city does not have solar panels. I saw another show The women of India’s Barefoot College bring light to remote villages

Being trained as solar-power engineers enables women from rural India and Africa to introduce electricity in isolated areas

      Gallery: India’s Barefoot engineers.

THIS AREA IS NOT ISOLATED but it could use alternative sources of electricity.
