AFGHANISTAN'S REFUGEES
Perspectives, Original Broadcast Date: October 26, 2001 (Show #508):
With U.S. military action in Afghanistan expected to continue into the winter months, host Bob Abernethy talks with Ken Hackett, executive director of Catholic Relief Services -- one of the largest international relief groups -- about the immediate and future humanitarian aid needed for Afghan refugees. Estimating that more than two and a half million currently live in Pakistan camps, Hackett observes, "We could see a situation this winter that, if we cannot get enough food assistance . . . the people could starve."
