2008 Campaign: Religion at the DNC
Cover Story, Original Broadcast Date: August 29, 2008 (Show #1152):
The election season moved into high gear this week with the start of the Democratic National Convention in Denver where religion continues to play an unusually significant role. To kick off convention events, the DNC Committee hosted its first-ever interfaith gathering on Sunday featuring prominent religious leaders and Gospel artists. Several faith caucuses and religion-oriented panel discussions are also being held during the convention, including events on how to get out the faith vote and the role of values in foreign policy -- all part of Democratic efforts to reach out to the faith community. Kim Lawton reports from the Democratic National Convention in Denver on these events and talks with religious leaders, Democratic officials, party activists and delegates about the Party's faith-based outreach strategy.
