THIRTEEN/WNET NEW YORK PROMOTES DAVID HORN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER OF GREAT PERFORMANCES
Thirteen/WNET New York has promoted Series Producer David Horn to Executive Producer of Great Performances, while continuing as Director of all performance programming. As such, he will serve as Executive Producer of Great Performances as well as oversee the development and production of all local and national performance programming for the New York metropolitan area’s flagship public television station, which is a major producer for PBS and the only television producer devoted to showcasing a multitude of art forms from every genre, both classical and contemporary.
“Following in the inimitable footsteps of Great Performances creator Jac Venza, David is the ideal candidate to lead this distinguished series into a new era,” says Stephen Segaller, Thirteen’s Vice President of National Production. “His 29 years of experience in creating award-winning programs, whether from the the concert hall, opera stage, or arena make him everyone’s unquestioned choice.”
Horn, who created the acclaimed In the Spotlight series of prime-time popular music specials in 1992 and later became Executive Producer of Sessions at West 54th, joined the station in 1979 as a production assistant for Thirteen’s local arts series Skyline.
Two-time winner of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for excellence in music programming, he is also recipient of the Primetime Emmy for “Linda Ronstadt: Canciones de Mi Padre” (1980), “Unforgettable, With Love: Natalie Cole Sings the Songs of Nat King Cole” (1982), “La Traviata From Paris” (2001), and the six-part “Broadway: The American Musical” (2005). He is currently Co-Executive Producer of Thirteen’s arts showcase, SundayArts.
His many directorial credits for Great Performances include the recent “Andrea Bocelli Live in Tuscany,” “We Love Ella!” and the upcoming “Chess in Concert.”
A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, he lives in Port Washington, Long Island, with wife Beth and two young sons.
Currently completing its 35th season on PBS, Great Performances is the longest-running and most prestigious performing-arts series on television. Since its creation in 1972, it has received every major television honor, including four George Foster Peabody Awards and more than 60 Emmys.
