COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARDS OF NEW YORK PUBLIC BROADCASTERS THIRTEEN/WNET AND WLIW21 INDUCT 10 COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS THAT EDUCATE, ENLIGHTEN AND INFORM INTO THE COMMUNITY HALL OF FAME

The Community Advisory Boards of Thirteen/WNET New York and WLIW21 inducted 10 community organizations into its COMMUNITY HALL OF FAME in a June 27 ceremony at the Thirteen/WNET studio in Manhattan. The stations' Community Advisory Boards have instituted the honor to recognize exemplary efforts in the fields of the arts, culture, education, and social concerns that are related to the stations' programming and/or to the stations' mission to educate, enlighten and inform. The induction ceremony was presided over by Dr. William F. Baker, CEO, Educational Broadcasting Corporation; Terrel Cass, President, WLIW; and Rhoda H. Karpatkin, Chair, Community Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Thirteen broadcast personality Tom Stewart served as master of ceremonies.

This years' inductees are GreenFaith; Guiding Eyes for the Blind; High 5 Tickets to the Arts; Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives; Museum of African American Cinema and Founder, Gregory J. Mills; NAMI Queens/Nassau; Partnership for Children's Rights and founder Warren J. Sinsheimer; Pro Bono Partnership, Inc. and Executive Director Richard Hobish, Esq.; Street Squash; and Suffolk County United Veterans and its CEO, John Lynch.

The Tri-State Community Advisory Board, comprised of 30 members reflective of the diverse interests and needs of the New York region, collaborates with the station to expand the reach of Thirteen's programming, educational activities and outreach initiatives. The role of the 19-member WLIW Community Advisory Board is to advise the Long Island Educational T.V. Council with respect to the programming and other policies of the station to meet the specialized educational and cultural needs of the communities it serves.
