RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY WINS EIGHT U.S. INTERNATIONAL FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL AWARDS

Washington, D.C. - RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY, the critically-acclaimed Thirteen/ WNET New York-produced PBS newsmagazine program hosted by Bob Abernethy, has been recognized for outstanding television production, receiving eight awards in the 40h Annual U.S. International Film and Video Festival.

RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY was honored with four first place "Gold Camera" awards for "Scott Neeson," "Peru Doctor," "Fair Use of Water" and "Homeless Hospice"; two second place "Silver Screen" awards for "Georgia Sex Offender Law" and "Down Syndrome"; and two Creative Excellence certificates for "Basil Brave Heart" and "Huntsville: Death Capital." All winning entries were submitted in the "Religion, Ethics and Humanities" category.

"Scott Neeson" and "Peru Doctor," were produced by Trent Harris; "Fair Use of Water" by Marcia Henning and "Homeless Hospice" by Susan Grandis Goldstein - and all were reported by Lucky Severson. Severson also served as the correspondent for "Huntsville: Death Capital," which was also produced by Goldstein. And Henning produced both reports on "Down Syndrome" and "Basil Brave Heart" featuring correspondent Bob Faw. "Georgia Sex Offender Law" was produced by Phil O'Connor and reported by Tim O'Brien.

Founded in 1968, the U.S. International Film and Video Festival Awards Competition is one of the world's leading international events devoted exclusively to the yearly selection and recognition of outstanding business, television, industrial, documentary and informational film and video productions. More than 1,200 entries from 24 countries were entered in this year's contest and were evaluated on the presentation and the creativity utilized in the making of the production. Previously, the program has received 12 U.S. International Film and Video Festival Awards for broadcast excellence.

RELIGION & ETHICS NEWSWEEKLY celebrates 10 years of distinctive, cutting-edge news coverage and analysis on PBS.
